About the book

The third volume, due in October 2026.

Hear it for yourself

Two of these cases, as they happened.

The interactive gives you the moment. The book gives you the people, the research and what it cost them.

Case four
2010When code broke machines

Stuxnet crossed an air gap on a USB stick and spun uranium centrifuges to destruction — while the operators' screens read ‘normal’.

The first weapon written entirely in software.

Stuxnet crossed an air gap and destroyed physical centrifuges while reporting normal operation to the control room. It marked the beginning of operational technology security as a discipline.

Code reached out of the screen and broke a machine. Going Geopolitical tells how it was done — and what it meant for every factory, hospital and power grid since.

Case five
2017When it reached the ward

WannaCry tore through unpatched systems worldwide. The flaw was known. The patch already existed.

NHS appointments disrupted

Somewhere in that outage was a person whose care was delayed. That is the ‘somebody’ in somebody was hurt first.

WannaCry reached roughly 200,000 computers across more than 150 countries and disrupted around 19,000 NHS appointments. A patch had been available for weeks.

The patch already existed. The scar was human. Going Geopolitical tells what happened when ransomware reached the ward.

Two of the ten cases in The Hacker Chronicles, Volume Three: Going Geopolitical, covering 2010 to 2020. Publication is October 2026.

The same question runs through Adjacent, a novel about an attack on a city’s water supply — what happens when the code stops being abstract, told from inside the family of the man who wrote it.
