The cert-collection trap

The single most common mistake UK career changers make with certifications is collecting more of them than they need. Three well-chosen certifications plus demonstrable practical evidence beats eight certifications without practical evidence. Hiring managers can tell the difference and respond accordingly. The certification industry has a commercial interest in convincing you otherwise.

If you find yourself studying for a fourth or fifth certification before applying for any roles, stop. Apply. Build practical evidence (TryHackMe rooms, home lab write-ups, volunteer GRC reviews). Put more energy into the practical side and less into the next certificate.
