Questions

Things people ask.

If yours is not here, ask it — and it will probably end up on this page.

Do I need to read The Hacker Chronicles in order?
No. Each volume covers a distinct period and each chapter is a self-contained case. Chronologically is the most satisfying way through, but people dip in constantly and nothing is lost by it.
Is the question bank really free?
Yes, and it stays that way. All 275 questions, searchable, no email required. The book that accompanies it goes deeper — more questions, fuller answers, and the structure behind them — but the bank is not a teaser and it is not time-limited.
Are the career guides only useful in the UK?
Largely, yes, and deliberately so. The certifications, salary bands, clearance levels, interview formats and hiring conventions are UK-specific. That specificity is the entire point — there is no shortage of guidance written for the American market.
I bought a book and something in it is now out of date.
Very likely, particularly certification prices and salary figures. Those live on the resources pages and get revised. If you have found an actual error rather than a change, please tell me and it goes on the corrections page, credited.
Is Ronan Blake a pen name?
Yes. The person behind it is a practising cybersecurity architect, which is why the books can be as blunt as they are about how hiring actually works.
Will there be audiobooks?
The Hacker Chronicles volumes are available in audio. The career guides are not, because a book you fill in and reference does not survive the format well.
Can I quote from a book, or use a chapter in teaching?
For review and comment, freely — no permission needed. For course materials or reproducing a chapter, ask. I hold the rights outright so the answer is usually yes and the paperwork is short.
Do you do bulk orders?
Yes, from ten copies, with discounts rising by quantity and invoicing against a purchase order. Details on the bulk orders page.
Will you look at my CV?
Not individually, I am afraid — there is only one of me and the volume would be unmanageable. The applications workbook contains the same advice I would give, including five before-and-after rewrites.
Adjacent is fiction. Why the change of direction?
It is not much of one. The non-fiction is about how institutions handle information they would rather not have. So is the novel. One of them just has a plot.
