Built to be used, including by people the web usually forgets.
This is a statement of what has actually been done and tested, not a claim of compliance. If something here does not work for you, tell me and I will fix it.
What has been done
Text and background colours across the site have been measured against WCAG 2.2 AA. An earlier version of this site used gold small-capitals on a cream ground at 2.87:1, which failed; it was replaced with navy at 13.2:1. Body text runs at 6.5:1 or better.
Every page has one first-level heading and a logical heading order. Every image has alternative text. Every form field has a label. Keyboard focus is visible throughout and nothing is reachable by mouse alone. Images declare their dimensions so the page does not jump as it loads.
The site is responsive to 320 pixels with no horizontal scrolling, and every page has been tested at that width.
Motion and sound
If your system asks for reduced motion, the site honours it: scroll animations, the spreading worm and the oscilloscope are all skipped and end states shown instead. No audio ever plays without you pressing a button, and the button warns you before it does.
The interactive pieces
The historical interactive on The First Hacks is the hardest part of this site to make fully accessible, because two of its five cases are inherently visual or audible. Every case therefore carries a written account beneath it that conveys the same fact without needing sound or motion, and every control is a real button with a label.
Known limitations
The canvas animations themselves are not conveyed to screen readers beyond their text equivalents. The question bank’s filtered results do not announce changes through a live region — a fix I intend to make. The downloadable workbooks are PDFs designed for printing and are not fully tagged for screen readers; if you would like any of them as plain text or Word, ask and I will send it.
Telling me about a problem
Email contact@ronanblake.co.uk. Describe what you were trying to do and what happened, and tell me what you are using if you know. I will reply, and accessibility fixes go to the front of the queue.
